University of Alabama HEA Graduate Named College President
Tuscaloosa, AL (PRWEB) November 18, 2009 -- Dr. Austin Lane, after receiving his EdD in Higher Education Administration from The University of Alabama (UA), was recently named the new president for the Montgomery branch of the Lone Star College System in Texas.
Dr. Lane holds a bachelor's degree from Langston University, a master's degree from The University of Oklahoma, a PhD in Psychology from Walden University and an EdD in Higher Education Administration from The University of Alabama. He chose to enroll in The University of Alabama's EdD in Higher Education Administration Executive Cohort program to further enhance his ability to achieve his career goals.
“I strongly believe that the quality and expertise of the faculty members in the higher education administration program at UA along with the scholarly discussions that took place among my peers in the executive cohort played a major role in my goal of wanting to become a community college president,” said Lane.
The EdD in Higher Education Administration Executive Cohort program is a rigorous, accelerated option designed for experienced professionals who seek a doctorate in higher education administration. Intensive coursework and a carefully structured dissertation process allow students to complete the degree in seven semesters; without interrupting their careers. Students meet for an intensive week of study during the summer semesters of the program in addition to monthly Thursday evening and Friday and Saturday sessions throughout the fall and spring semesters.
“I was attracted to the quality of the institution and the fact that they (College of Education) offered a dynamic executive cohort style higher education administration degree over the course of two years. I also reviewed the credentials of the faculty and their research interests and believed that this program was the right fit for me and my career goals,” said Lane.
Before being named president of LSC-Montgomery, Lane held various administrative and faculty positions including vice president for student affairs at Tyler Junior College in Texas and adjunct faculty in psychology at Tarrant County College-Southeast Campus. He also held the positions of assistant dean of students/director of student judicial affairs and dean of students/counseling specialist with The University of Texas-Arlington.
The Lone Star College System consists of five colleges and six academic centers making it the largest higher education institution in the Houston area and third largest community college system in Texas.
“Pursuing the EdD in Higher Education Administration was probably one of the best decisions I ever made. Overall, I was impressed with the quality of instruction, expertise and research interests of the faculty, and vast educational and administrative experiences of students in the executive cohort, and first-class facilities at The University of Alabama,” said Lane.
